Local Children's Book Authors Release First Book, FALI
Charlestonian's Tom and Georgia Lucas,
who spent five years in Africa while Tom was working for the American
Embassy, have released their first picture book for ages 5-12 titled,
FALI. FALI is a beautifully illustrated and
touching story of a young boy who learns to take care of his animal
and in the process, becomes a man. The idea for the book
came about when, in Mali, Georgia remarked on the plight of many
horses and donkeys overburdened with packs and heavy carts.
Amadou is a fourteen-year-old boy who lives in
a village in West Africa. One day, Amadou's father asks him to teach
their youngest donkey, Fali, to pull the cart. The young boy and
the donkey become a big help to Amadou's family. But soon the cart
becomes too heavy for the little donkey to pull. Will Amadou do
what's best for the donkey or simply obey his father?
